The writings of Dionysius the Areopagite were once venerated by generations of mystics and theologians. ‘It is hardly possible’ says Evelyn Underhill ‘to underestimate the influence of this Father of Christian Mysticism. “St Deonise saith” was sufficient authority in itself.’ His work on the angelic hierarchies describes the arrangement of the choirs of angels and illustrates how, through the threefold process of purgation, illumination and perfective union, the soul may make its return to God.
Jule Parker led this Quiet Day, which consisted of an introduction to Dionysius, followed by readings and short periods of silent reflection on the text.
