The Cloud of Unknowing is a guide to the contemplative life. It is a warm, scholarly work of spiritual direction, but one which approaches the spiritual life with common sense and humour. It was written in the 14th century at the height of England’s ‘great mystical period’ - the time of Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton and Julian of Norwich, but the work stands within an older tradition of the Via Negativa. The day was led by Julie Parker, who hopes to run a follow-on "Return to the Cloud of Unknowing in March 2016.
