The gist of the whole of the philosophy of Plato, and the substance of all the Platonic dialogues, according to Proclus, is the knowledge of human nature. Once gained, this enables us to know what is our special good.
Pursuing this good, by cultivating the excellences or virtues of our nature, converts such knowledge into wisdom and prepares a person for the Mysteries.
This weekend surveyed those twelve dialogues listed by Iamblichus as key stages in the Path to the Mysteries in order to discover why these twelve were specially selected, and why the Platonists studied them in the order given.
